Oscar fodder.
Not that it deserves an oscar or anything. Russell "fighting 'round the world" crowe is the same as he ever was in this tepid boxing story. The fact that it's based on a true story should be enough to deter criticism that it plots the same old points as, like, every other sports film ever.
In short, Jim Braddock is having a tough time in the depression, and might have to sell his kids for medical experiments. But, obviously, his mate paul giamatti gets him back into the ring for one last chance, and he proves himself to be the best boxer ever or whatever. Some decent fighting, some not bad acting, nothing outstanding in any way. It'll probably delight yank audiences, but that shit won't fly over here.

Not my thing either, but it looked really dramatic and "based on a true story" and all that, but really it's just a generic sports flick.
